8 good reasons to add Chia Seeds to your diet

You may heard about Chia Seeds (Salvia hispanica) and it’s amazing health benefits. It is highly nutritious and can be either black or white.

Originally from México, the ancient chia seeds were an important nutritional source of the Aztecs and Mayan diet. “Chia” means strength, and folklore mentions that they used the tiny seeds as an energy booster during battles.

As our modern nutrition has been more concerned to diversify and find more natural Superfood sources, it has regained popularity and so, it became one more health food option.

If you want to adopt a healthier diet and enrich it, these little seeds are a healthful addition and an excellent source of essential fatty acids, such as Omega-3 and Omega-6.

-Weight loss – chia helps to boost metabolism and promotes lean muscle mass. Also it is supposed to expand in your belly forming a gel, which helps to control food cravings by making you feel full. -Sprinkle on salads, sauces, sandwich, cereal, yoghurt and smooth.

-Add to breads / cookies dough and porridge and puddings.

-Egg substitute (chia eggs) in baking vegan recipes. Just soak the white chia seeds in water to get a gel.

  • The equivalent of 1 egg:

-3 tbsp of warm water
-1 tbsp of white chia seed (to keep the original recipe color)

Grind the chia seeds. Add the warm water to a bowl. Add the chia and mix all well. Let the mixture sit for 15 minutes and it will look like raw egg.

Note: Chia seeds can be found in whole food stores, supermarkets and in bulk, which is cheaper in the central market (Grains zone) from your city.
